“Eclipses are stunning, wonderful events, but
the magic also comes with friends around the
globe and at TravelQuest, who come together in
exotic places every now and then to reconnect
under the shadow of the Moon.”
- Eclipse meteorologist and TravelQuest Trip Leader, Jay Anderson
The incredible splendor of the tropical
South Pacific and the warmth of its
Polynesian inhabitants are well known
around the world. TravelQuest invites
you to join us as we explore some of the
most beautiful and remote regions of the
southern South Pacific, while heading
toward a rendezvous with the November
14, 2012, total eclipse of the Sun.
For the third time in five years,
TravelQuest is chartering the m/s PAUL
GAUGUIN, a beautiful 330-passenger,
5-star luxury cruise ship, to take us to
the November 14th total solar eclipse.
Along the way, we’ll discover
spectacular Fiji, and neighboring
Vanuatu and New Caledonia. Our voyage is
set for November 10 - 20, 2012.
The total solar
eclipse of 2012 offers few viewing
opportunities, given the extremely remote region
of the South Pacific through which the path
travels. Land-based TravelQuest eclipse 2012 travelers will
gather near
Australia’s Great Barrier Reef to
witness the event. Those joining us aboard the
GAUGUIN will take advantage of the ship’s
mobility on eclipse day, which increases our
chance of seeing one of nature’s most profound
and unique spectacles. Add to this the
incredible scenic beauty of Fiji and its
neighboring islands, and the friendly nature of
its inhabitants, and you’ll have an eclipse
experience made in the heavens!
From our viewing site at sea, south of New
Caledonia, we will observe totality for a
whopping 3 minutes (only 1 minute less than the
maximum possible), with the Sun 40° above the
horizon at mid-eclipse! Since only a small
portion of the path of totality falls on land
(in Australia, near sunrise), our GAUGUIN
eclipse trip may well give 2012 eclipse chasers
their longest possible experience under the
Moon’s shadow.
We have created an extraordinary itinerary that
allows passengers to experience the warmth of
the Polynesian people, and the scenic beauty of
the region they call home. And the small size of
the GAUGUIN allows us to call upon a number of
beautiful, but seldom-visited islands during our
2012 eclipse voyage. Join
us aboard one of the highest-rated cruise ships
in the world, visit an amazing region of our
planet, and witness the November 14, 2012, total
solar eclipse. Don’t miss the boat or Totality!
