“Eclipses are stunning, wonderful events, but
the magic also comes with friends around the
globe and at TravelQuest, who come together in
exotic places every now and then to reconnect
under the shadow of the Moon.”
- Eclipse meteorologist and TravelQuest Trip Leader, Jay Anderson
For those who truly seek
a path less travelled, Papua New Guinea
ranks as one of the world’s most
diverse, remote, and absorbing
geographic and cultural destinations.
TravelQuest International invites 100 intrepid eclipse
chasers to join us on a privately
chartered expedition cruise, November
3-15, 2012, as we explore the wonders of
Papua New Guinea (PNG) and witness the
November 14 Total Solar Eclipse off the
coast of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef,
aboard the 5-star expedition cruise ship
m/v ORION. The ship provides the perfect
base for visiting this amazing pristine
paradise and for cruising through the
Moon’s shadow!
As in past TravelQuest eclipse cruises, this unique
expedition will attract a
group of
like-minded travelers who enjoy
astronomy, photography, marine biology,
bird watching, anthropology, and
maritime and military history — while
traveling in luxurious surroundings with
your every need provided for by a crew
of 75 and assisted by a knowledgeable
Expedition Team both on board and
ashore.
Our expedition will begin and end in Cairns, Australia, the
gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. At
the start of our expedition, we will fly
by private charter to Rabaul, PNG, where
we will enjoy a full-day tour of the
area before setting sail.
Each day of this expedition will reveal yet another aspect to
the wonderful cultural diversity of PNG
and the breathtaking scenery unique to
this remote land. This is still a land of magic and
spirits, despite the best efforts of
colonial missionaries over the
centuries. A land of 800 languages and
cultural variety, PNG will take your
breath away. From volcanic tropical
fjords and the flooded crater that is
Rabaul’s Simpson Harbour, to pristine
white-sand beaches, the beauty of PNG is
wonderfully varied.
Many of New Guinea’s villagers have been exposed to the
western world only through the workings
of missionaries and occasional traders,
so our 2012 eclipse expedition will be
as interesting to them as it will be to
us aboard ORION.
With a colorful colonial trading history, numerous World War
II sites of great significance, an
extraordinary range of cultures and
artwork, friendly villagers, and
outstanding crystal-clear waters for
swimming, snorkeling, and diving, Papua
New Guinea and its Islands are rich in
history, beauty, and culture. Primitive
tribal customs illustrated through
vibrant costume and dance; active
volcanoes; unique flora and fauna;
superb indigenous artwork and artifacts;
villages ringing with the laughter of
curious children; world-class snorkeling
and scuba diving; wartime history and
relics — all will combine to create an
unforgettable Eclipse 2012 experience.
Space on this unique
eclipse expedition cruise is limited to just 100 travelers. Make your
reservation today!
