“Eclipses are stunning, wonderful events, but the magic also comes with friends around the globe and at TravelQuest, who come together in exotic places every now and then to reconnect under the shadow of the Moon.”
 - Eclipse meteorologist and TravelQuest Trip Leader, Jay Anderson

     See a Total Solar Eclipse

The November 3, 2013, total solar eclipse over sub-Saharan Africa offers an incredible opportunity to observe an amazing celestial event and experience the wonders of Western Africa. Technically a hybrid eclipse (one that is annular or total at different points along the eclipse path), totality is well underway by the time the shadow of the Moon sweeps toward Africa.

TravelQuest, in cooperation with Compagnie du Ponant Cruises, has created an amazing solar eclipse cruise along the west coast of Africa that includes viewing the total eclipse of the Sun in the vicinity of “Maximum Totality” of 1 minute and 40 seconds — the longest time possible to stand in the Moon’s shadow on November 3, 2013.

Our 14-day total solar eclipse cruise

aboard the brand new, 260-passenger mega-yacht Ponant Cruises’ L’Austral  begins in Casablanca, Morocco; ends in Dakar, Senegal; and includes ports of call in Morocco, the Canary Islands, Senegal, Gambia, and Guinea-Bissau.

Starting in Morocco we’ll cruise south beside the largest desert on Earth — the Sahara. Later we will sail alongside tropical jungles, all the while calling on amazing ports, alive with West Africa’s culturally rich past and present. Our days at sea will include enrichment lectures on various topics including the November 3rd total solar eclipse, which we’ll witness in the South Atlantic just north of the equator — at the point of Maximum Totality.

Our “home away from home” during this remarkable journey is the beautiful, new L'Austral, one of the most eco-friendly ships sailing today. Pure and elegant with a slender silhouette, this private, state-of-the-art, mega-yacht distinguishes herself from traditional cruising vessels with her innovative design and advanced marine technology.

Offering first-class quality service, exquisite cuisine, and exceptional “savoir faire” — all born of European style and Ponant Cruises’ French heritage — L’Austral offers a unique cruise experience for the 2013 total eclipse of the Sun!

With extremely limited capacity combined with exotic ports of call, this solar eclipse cruise will sell quickly. Reserve your stateroom today!
